Our mission is to create a college-ready culture among Waterbury students and their families.

GEAR UP stands for “Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs” and is a grant that helps students starting in middle school prepare for education and training beyond high school. The vision of GEAR UP Waterbury is for all students to be academically, socially, and financially ready to enter and succeed in the postsecondary program or institution of their choice.

GEAR UP Waterbury is a partnership between Naugatuck Valley Community College, the Waterbury Public School System, and the Greater Waterbury community. GEAR UP is administered through Naugatuck Valley Community College and the CT Board of Regents and is funded through the Department of Education. We serve a cohort of approximately 1,600 Waterbury students across multiple schools and at Naugatuck Valley Community College.

GEAR UP Waterbury provides support services to help students be successful. Below is a list of some of the activities GEAR UP Waterbury provides, but there are many, many more.
